Betty's Journey

Meet Betty

At Dental Implants and Aesthetics Southport, Dr. Dinos Kountouras has helped many patients regain their confidence through advanced dental treatments. One of his cases involved a complete smile transformation for a 60-year-old patient looking to restore both function and aesthetics to her smile.

Betty had a deep desire to restore the youthful appearance of her smile.

Step One

When we first saw Betty, it was clear that over the years, she had experienced significant wear on her teeth, leading to severely compromised function and aesthetics. Having a history of tooth grinding and chronic acid reflux,  contributed to the severe deterioration of her enamel.

Step Two

One of the most exciting parts of this journey was using cutting-edge digital technology to design and test her new smile before committing to the final restorations.

Step Three

Using digital facial and intra-oral scans, jaw motion tracking, and 3D imaging, we were able to create a virtual patient—a digital model of her teeth and facial structure. This allowed us to design a smile that complemented her facial features and functioned optimally.

Step Four

Using advanced guided surgery techniques, six implants were strategically placed in the upper jaw.

(Following surgery, a temporary bridge was immediately attached, meaning she never had to go through a period without teeth).

Mock-up phase:

Six months post-op, A 3D-printed trial prosthesis ensured a perfect fit before the final restoration was fabricated. Advanced bite analysis technology refined the occlusion (bite).

This stage ensured that Betty could experience the look, feel, and function of her new smile. She was thrilled with the results, which gave us the green light to proceed with the final steps.

Step Five

Digital impressions were taken to create her permanent implant-supported prosthesis which was a full arch Zirconia bridge on titanium framework.

Once fabricated, the prosthesis is attached to the upper six dental implants (pictured) and fixed into place.

Step Six

The screw access holes are filled to complete the insertion of Betty’s new full arch restoration.

Finals

From the moment she first saw her new smile, our patient was overjoyed. Not only did she love how it looked, but she also felt a dramatic improvement in her ability to chew, function and speak comfortably and confidently.

This incredible transformation was made possible by a combination of cutting-edge technology, meticulous planning, and expert craftsmanship, as well as the technical support, lab technicians, and ceramists of Werner Sauer Smile Design in Brisbane.
