What Is Guided Implant Surgery — and Why Is It Essential for All-on-X?

Traditional full-arch implant surgery requires placing four to six dental implants per arch — often freehand, relying on clinical experience and intraoperative judgement. While effective in many cases, this technique can introduce variability — especially in complex, full-arch cases where multiple implants must be placed in perfect synchrony with the oral and facial anatomy.

It begins with CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography) imaging and intraoral scanning, which enable the creation of a 3D digital model of the patient’s mouth and jawbone. From this digital plan, a custom surgical guide is fabricated — a precisely fitted device that controls the drilling and placement of each implant during surgery. The guide ensures that the surgical outcome aligns with the virtual plan, providing superior control and accuracy.
