Dr William Dear was born in London but grew up on the Gold Coast. A keen soccer player, William dreamt of becoming a professional in England. He moved there after finishing school to trial with clubs. After a year spent in England, homesickness drove him back to the Gold Coast where he began studying for a Bachelor of Science at Griffith University.
It was during this time that a trip to a local dentist inspired him to consider dentistry as a career. This dentist kindly allowed William to sit in and observe him for a few days. After completing his Bachelor of Science, William completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Sydney University in 2004. He returned home to the Gold Coast that same year, commenced working at Coastal Dental Care Runaway Bay and never looked back, becoming a partner in the business 2011.
Through his caring, gentle approach and passion for performing quality dentistry, William has built up a strong following of patients on the northern end of the Gold Coast. Possessing a keen eye for detail and a light touch, he excels at aesthetic and delicate cases. William loves the combination of art and science required in restorative dentistry and has completed a Master’s degree in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at King’s College London, graduating with distinction.

Another area of interest for William is microscope enhanced dentistry. Using an operating microscope, oral structures can be magnified up to 20 times. This allows earlier detection of cracked teeth and tooth decay, more conservative treatment, improved aesthetics and greater precision when performing restorative dentistry. The improved vision provided by an operating microscope is also indispensable when performing root canal treatment. This is an additional area of dentistry in which William has a particular interest.
A member of the Australian Dental Association, William is committed to continuing education. He regularly attends lectures and seminars to ensure that his knowledge and skills are up to date. In addition, William mentors’ students in the Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics Master’s programme at King’s College London. He is a clinical mentor for Coastal Dental Care and lectures for the Australian Institute of Continuing Education in Dentistry.
Outside of work, William is a family man and loves spending time with his wife and two young boys. He is a keen surfer and an enthusiastic (though very average) golfer who still loves his soccer. He is a big supporter of his beloved Chelsea Football Club. Other interests include music, reading and travelling.
