Dr Dinos Kountouras is the first user of the Modjaw apparatus in Australia Dental Implants & Aesthetics is very excited to be the first Australian dental clinic to use this amazing cutting-edge digital technology.

What is the Modjaw 4D Technology?

ModJaw 4D Dentistry is the latest in digital dental technology. ModJaw’s scanning system allows the exact movements of your jaw to be digitised, recorded, and viewed in real-time. At Dental Implants & Aesthetics, Southport location, we are pleased to have installed Australia’s very first ‘Modjaw 4D Dentistry’ digital scanning system! We currently use it for all full mouth rehabilitation cases, and smile makeover treatments conducted by Dr Dinos Kountouras.

How does ModJaw work?

ModJaw technology allows all facial information and jaw movements to be optically scanned and studied digitally. The Mod Jaw apparatus uses a very sophisticated optical camera and sensors to record and digitise all the movements of your jaw and then display them on a monitor before your eyes. As the system is fully optical, no radiation is involved.

Using this 4D technology means that your treatment outcomes will be more predictable, and the restorations will be tailored to best suit your mouth’s physiological environment. It enables you to view your jaw movements on a computer screen next to you. This helps to promote a discussion between you and your dentist while you perform functional movements such as:

  • Biting
  • Chewing
  • Grinding

If you can see a visual representation of your jaw movements, it can help you to understand best how these movements may affect your daily activities and oral health habits. Furthermore, any issues that may be causing you pain and discomfort or contributing to tooth wear can be identified and addressed. All restorations will be custom-shaped to fit the unique way that your jaw functions best.

What is it involved?

At your appointment, Dr. Dinos will attach the optical sensors of the Modjaw 4D device to your face and jaw so that the Modjaw optical camera can record the real-time movements of your jaw. This allows us to see how your jaw functions when chewing, biting and grinding, amongst other functional movements.

With the help of this cutting-edge digital scanning equipment, Dr.  Dinos Kountouras will be able to optimally plan the treatment and rehabilitate your smile. You will be able to visualise a 3D image of your new smile, which has been custom-designed to fit your face, and the unique way that your jaw functions.

This technology can be used for all smile makeover dental treatments and all implant and full-mouth and All-on-X rehabilitation treatments.

Before and Afters

4D Digital Smile Design Cases

Full Arch Rehabilitation

Before

Our patient came to us with severely decayed, broken down teeth. Unfortunately the remaining teeth were beyond repair. He was experiencing discomfort and loss of function due to his oral condition, and was needing a full arch restorative solution.

After

All upper teeth were removed and 6 dental implants placed in the upper arch. Final restoration was a zirconia bridge on 'All-on-6' dental implants with titanium framework. Restoring function with highly-aesthetic, natural-looking results.

Veneers

Before

Our patient came to us wanting to enhance the overall appearance of her smile. Her teeth were discoloured, misaligned, slightly worn-down in areas, and had an uneven smile line. She wanted to have her teeth as minimally prepped as possible, and to have a very natural-looking smile that would 'enhance' her face and complement her natural facial features.

After

These results were achieved with 10 minimally invasive feldspathic porcelain veneers. By minimally prepping the patient's tooth structure and fabricating ultra-thin, semi-translucent porcelain veneers, we were able to create a very natural-looking, life-like result for our patient.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Before

Our patient was unhappy with the aesthetics of her smile as her teeth were very short and uneven due to extensive wear over the years. She wanted not only to obtain an enhanced natural looking smile but also to protect her teeth and restore her oral function.

After

After a course of orthodontic treatment to get her teeth aligned, minimally invasive all ceramic veneers were fabricated to modify her bite and improve the overall appearance of her smile.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Before

The patient’s main complaint was that the aesthetics of her smile were lost over the years and her oral function was compromised due to the wear of her teeth. The patient's medical records indicated a history of chronic acid reflux, and she was aware tooth grinding habits. Her treatment wish was to obtain a fixed oral rehabilitation that would best address all her aesthetic and functional demands.

After

Extraction of all maxillary (upper) teeth and the placement of 6 dental implants to support a fixed full arch Zirconia bridge prosthesis. Restoration of all mandibular (lower) teeth with minimally invasive bonded ceramic restorations.
